I thought it was the coolest thing ever when we were writing it, the idea of doing a 'lost episode' of The Next Generation, but they're going to the holodeck to look back at Enterprise, Rick and I thought was a great sendoff to Star Trek [the franchise as it existed in 2005], and it didn't work out so well...It was a kind of a slap in the face to the Enterprise actors. I heard it from everybody, it was the only time Scott Bakula was ever mean to me. I regret it.

read the rest here.

from what i've seen & heard scott bakula is a ridiculously nice guy so for him to be "mean" to someone is a major thing.

Well, at least he RECOGNIZES what a horrifyingly bad idea it was in retrospect. I hadn't even considered it from the actors' point of view, I was just so mad at it from a fan point of view. The whole idea that the best way to end the show was to throw out everything fans liked about it so you could do a half-assed (not even very GOOD, just half-assed) pseudo-episode of a different show. Like, there was no concept that people might actually like Enterprise itself, as itself, and not as "what we watch when we can't get TNG."

Oh wow it's been forever since I last watched Enterprise, but I definitely remembered that terrible episode. It was so badly put together and how Trip's sudden death was just thrown in like "Okay he's dead, onto the next thing!"
