Even if a fellow wasn’t in love with a spouse, that would be hard to assimilate. Humiliating. And what about all that sexual tension built up over such a long time? Had it really been expended by their battle? Was Spock truly rid of his unsatiated need?
If Spock had been anybody else Kirk could have approached him and coaxed him into confidence—except, if he was anybody else among Kirk’s friends, he would not be a half-human Vulcan in the aftermath of a broken pon farr. Kirk imagined going to him, making some rational argument for why they needed, freely, frankly, privately, to discuss what they’d been through.
Talk about ... he winced at his own jargon ... possible next steps.
